As we’re nearing the end of the year it’s becoming increasingly crucial to refresh your wine stash for the festive season.

If you’re after some refreshing wines from a boutique Aussie winery which won’t break the bank then the Molly’s Cradle collection might be right up your street.

Molly’s Cradle’s multi-region fine wines hail from regions such as the Hunter Valley, Langhorne Creek, Clare Valley, McLaren Vale, The Pyrenees and Adelaide Hills – and are all 100% family owned.

And with three different ranges available depending on your budget – Cradle Range, Estate Range and the Molly May Range – there really is something to suit everyone!

The Wine Pig tried:

Molly’s Cradle Estate 2016 Sauvignon Blanc

Molly’s Cradle Estate 2016 Verdelho

Molly’s Cradle Estate 2015 Chardonnay

Molly’s Cradle Estate 2016 Shiraz Rose

Molly’s Cradle Estate 2014 Merlot

Cradle Reserve 2013 McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon

Cradle Reserve 2014 McLaren Vale Shiraz

And this is what we found.

Molly’s Cradle Estate 2016 Sauvignon Blanc

The only thing you need to go with an ice cold bottle of Sauvignon Blanc at summertime is an ice cold glass to drink it out of! Molly’s Cradle’s version has soaked up the warm sunshine and cool climate of South Australia’s Adelaide Hills, giving a perfect citrusy, fresh and wonderfully crisp white wine loaded with tropical flavours. Pour us another glass please!

Molly’s Cradle Estate 2016 Verdelho

If Sauvignon Blanc isn’t quite up your street then a gorgeous Hunter Valley Verdelho might be more what you’re after. It’s still fruity and packed full of citrus but instead of a crisp, sharp finish, it’s got a natural sweetness to balance out that zesty finish.

Molly’s Cradle Estate 2015 Chardonnay

The wonderful Hunter Valley Chardonnay is very well balanced between its citrusy peachy flavours, an acidic finish but topped off with a French oak finish known and loved by the iconic NSW wine region. A summer dinner table wouldn’t be complete without it.

Molly’s Cradle Estate 2016 Shiraz Rose

Summer isn’t really, truly here until you’ve stocked up on a few bottles of Rose wine. This Hunter Valley Rose is from a Shiraz base, which gives it a musky pink finish. It’s zesty and slightly dry but balanced with classic strawberry notes and a natural sweetness to complement its fresh finish. This one is a crowd pleaser for sure!

Molly’s Cradle Estate 2014 Merlot

As one of the few red wines in the Estate range, this Merlot, from South Australia’s Clare Valley, is equally delicious. As an area renowned for producing rich, succulent and full-bodied reds, this wine certainly doesn’t disappoint. It’s deep and spicy with plenty of black cherry and red currant notes and silky smooth tannins.

Cradle Reserve 2013 McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon

An excellent red wine from Molly’s Cradle Reserve range – it’s smooth and luscious with plenty of plum and black cherry flavours balanced with a hint of smoky oak. Incredibly delicious and incredibly drinkable. This wine will improve even more over another 7-10 years… but we just couldn’t wait that long!!

Cradle Reserve 2014 McLaren Vale Shiraz

Another cracker of a red wine from Molly’s Cradle Reserve range, but this time a Shiraz. As expected, it’s far spicier than its Cabernet Sauvignon sibling but still incredibly well balanced and velvety. Instead of the smooth cherry notes, this Shiraz’s plum flavours are complemented well by hints of chocolate and rich pudding. Absolutely delicious.
